BRINGING CHILDREN TO COURT The Circuit Court of Norfolk does NOT have child care facilities. The Court strongly discourages persons attending Court, whether as parties, witnesses, or spectators, from bringing young children with them. Infant formula, milk, and baby food may NOT be brought into the Courthouse. Some judges will not allow young children in their courtrooms. Other judges will allow young children in their courtrooms but will order them to be removed if they are unable to remain seated and quiet. Persons bringing young children with them are expected to keep them under proper control. Children running, crawling, crying or screaming in the Courthouse may be ordered to be removed.
DRESSING FOR COURT
The Circuit Court of Norfolk is a public building, but appropriate dress is expected. Those not dressed appropriately may be barred from the Courthouse, the Clerk's Office, or a courtroom. The Court does not have a formal dress code, and different judges have different standards. Nonetheless, persons attending Court, whether as parties, witnesses, or spectators, or those having business in the Clerk's Office should give thought to their appearance and should not have exposed, shoulders, backs, or midriffs. Bathing suits, short shorts, short skirts or dresses, and flip-flops are not appropriate, nor is clothing with vulgar words or pictures. Some judges will not allow men to appear in short pants regardless of the season.
